Week 6

Add to your Kits:

· Blanket or space blanket—1 per person

· Duct tape—1 per family



Tips and other Info:

· Grab an old fleece blanket and throw it in your kit. (FREE)
· Nylon Rope 50ft. $2.95 @ Emergency Essentials.
· Duct Tape, but a roll and then roll 10 ft. around a popsicle stick for each member of your family.

Week 5

FHE:

Conduct a mock black-out.  See page 334 in Family Home Evening resource book or follow the ‘FHE Blackout Activity’ link for instructions.

Activities to do in the dark: flashlight hide and seek, sing camp songs, play games by candlelight, tell stories, have a family slumber party, build a sofa fort, play capture the flag, memorize scriptures, hold a testimony meeting, do a bubble gum blowing contest, go on a treasure hunt, put items in a can and shake them—then guess what is in the can, put items in a bag and feel them—the guess what is in the bag.

· Bottled water is on sale at Smith's until next Tuesday, October 12th, and Fresh Market until Tuesday, Oct. 5th.  A 24-pack of Western Family/Kroger half liter water bottles is 4 for $10 (Smith's) or 2 for $5 (Fresh Market).

Week 2

Add to your Kits:
· Trail mix or dried fruit—6 servings per person
· Pocket knife—at least 1 per family
· Can opener—at least 1 per family
· 1 roll of toilet paper per person


Tips and other Info:
· Take the tube out of your toilet paper and flatten it for storage or store smaller items inside tube.  Then store toilet paper in a Ziploc bag.
· Store ‘per family’ items in Dad or Mom’s bag or in separate smaller utility bag.
· Emergency Essentials has the ‘High Uinta Gear - Multi Function Tool’ with a knife, can opener, pliers, screwdriver, and many other tools for $4.95.  Click on ‘High Uinta Tool’ for info.  Cabela’s, Walmart, Target etc. also have similar options.
· Eagle Mountain Fire Department will be offering CERT classes starting in October.  Learn fire safety, first-aid, CPR, search & rescue and more.  CPR classes are also available independent of the CERT classes.  Click on 'EM Fire Department' for details.

Easy Out

To ruin our whole plan and provide and easy out (wink, wink) 72-hour kits are on sale at Emergency Essentials until Sept. 30th for $46.99.  They are regularly priced at $54.99. 
Kevin and I purchased these basic kits for us a while ago and we are building the others week by week for our kids.

We will continute our 3 month plan to build 72 hour kits.  Whether you go out and buy a kit or build them week by week with us, our goal is that we all have one ready in 3 months.
